How to Get to Tokyo Disney Resort by Train: Maihama Station Basics
The nearest station is JR Maihama Station. The trains that serve it can look confusing at first, so this guide covers the line names, the long walk to the Keiyo Line platforms at Tokyo Station, and how to reach each park once you arrive.
In short: Both the JR Keiyo Line and the JR Musashino Line have trains that stop at Maihama, but not every train on those lines goes there. At Tokyo Station, the Keiyo Line platforms are far from most other JR platforms, so allow extra transfer time. From Maihama, Tokyo Disneyland is a short walk, while Tokyo DisneySea is reached by the Disney Resort Line monorail.
Keiyo Line or Musashino Line: which should you take?
Both the JR Keiyo Line and the JR Musashino Line serve Maihama Station. Some Musashino Line trains continue onto the Keiyo Line tracks and stop at Maihama, so the line name alone does not tell you whether a train is the right one when you set out from Tokyo Station.
Instead, check the departure board on the platform to confirm that the train stops at Maihama, and look at its destination and stopping stations. Destinations vary by time of day and by service, so you cannot assume the same kind of train will arrive every time. Checking the station signs or a journey-planner app before you board is the most reliable approach.
Allow extra time for the Tokyo Station transfer
The Keiyo Line platforms at Tokyo Station are located well away from the Yamanote Line, Chuo Line, Shinkansen and many other platforms. Even when you transfer inside the ticket gates, the walk to the platform can be long, so avoid estimating the transfer time too tightly.
JR East's station map shows the Keiyo Line platforms in a separate part of the station from the other lines. If this is your first time, or you are carrying large luggage, it helps to look at the map in advance.
- Follow the signs marked “Keiyo Line” (京葉線).
- Count the walking time for the transfer separately from the train journey itself.
- If you are arriving by Shinkansen or from another line, avoid very tight connections and choose a train that leaves you a margin.
After you reach Maihama: which park are you heading to?
Tokyo Disneyland: Walk from Maihama Station. The walk to the park is roughly five minutes.
Tokyo DisneySea: Walk to Resort Gateway Station and board the Disney Resort Line. Get off at Tokyo DisneySea Station.
The Disney Resort Line is a monorail that is separate from JR. If you are heading to DisneySea, leave through the JR ticket gates and follow the signs to Resort Gateway Station. If you are going to Tokyo Disneyland, you generally do not need to ride the Resort Line.
Check the destination on the way back, too
Look at the destination display before you board on the return trip as well. To go back to Tokyo Station, you need a train bound for the Tokyo direction. Some Musashino Line trains have destinations other than Tokyo Station, so do not assume that every train arriving at the Keiyo and Musashino Line platform will take you there.
Stations and platforms can be crowded after the parks close and in the evening. Check the destination and departure time on the board before you get on. If there are delays or other announcements on the day, the information at the station takes priority over any guide.
A quick checklist
- At Tokyo Station, allow time to walk to the Keiyo Line platforms.
- Before boarding, confirm that the train stops at Maihama.
- At Maihama, remember the basics: walk to Tokyo Disneyland, and take the Resort Line to Tokyo DisneySea.
- On the way back, check the destination display and make sure the train is heading toward Tokyo.
- If there are suspensions, delays or special announcements, follow the station signs and the railway operator's service information.
